Tip Calculator
Calculate a tip, total bill and per-person split instantly with preset or custom tip percentages.
Quick tip amounts
Tips for common bill amounts in any currency. For example, a 20% tip on 1,500 is 300, so the total is 1,800. For other amounts, enter the bill in the calculator above.
| Bill | 10% tip | 15% tip | 18% tip | 20% tip |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 500 | 50 | 75 | 90 | 100 |
| 1,000 | 100 | 150 | 180 | 200 |
| 1,500 | 150 | 225 | 270 | 300 |
| 2,000 | 200 | 300 | 360 | 400 |
| 5,000 | 500 | 750 | 900 | 1,000 |
To split the total between people, divide it by the number of people: 1,800 shared by 4 is 450 each. The calculator does this for you when you set the number of people.
Calculate a restaurant tip instantly
Enter the bill amount, choose a tip percentage and set the number of people. The calculator shows the tip, total bill and per-person split.
How to calculate a tip
Tip amount = bill × tip percentage ÷ 100. The total bill is the original bill plus the tip. When splitting a bill, the total is divided by the number of people.
Quick tip percentages
Use the preset buttons for 10%, 15%, 18%, 20% or 25%, or enter any custom percentage you prefer.
Example: split an $80 bill four ways
Enter 80 for the bill, 15 for the tip percentage and 4 people. The tip is $12, the total is $92, the tip per person is $3 and each person's total is $23. Changing the number of people changes the split, not the overall tip.
Choose the bill amount intentionally
The calculator uses exactly the amount entered. It does not identify taxes, discounts or an existing service charge. Check the bill before adding another tip. Results are shown without a currency symbol, so the calculator works with any currency, from dollars and euros to rupees and riyals. It does not convert between currencies.
The split is equal across all people. For unequal orders, calculate shares separately. Displayed amounts are rounded to two decimals, which can leave a small payment difference. For discounts, use the Percentage Calculator.
Splitting a bill when people ordered different amounts
An equal split is simple, but it isn't fair when one person had a starter and two drinks and another had only a main course. A fair way is to add the same tip percentage to each person's own order. With an 18% tip on a bill of 120:
| Person | Ordered | Pays (order × 1.18) |
|---|---|---|
| A | 50.00 | 59.00 |
| B | 40.00 | 47.20 |
| C | 30.00 | 35.40 |
| Total | 120.00 | 141.60 |
The three shares add up to exactly the same 141.60 as 120 plus an 18% tip, so nobody pays for anyone else's food. To get each share with this calculator, enter each person's order as the bill and set the number of people to 1.
Why an equal split can be off by a cent
Amounts are rounded to two decimals, so some totals can't be shared exactly. A total of 92.00 split three ways is 30.666…, which the calculator shows as 30.67. Three payments of 30.67 come to 92.01, one cent too much. Have two people pay 30.67 and one pay 30.66, which adds up to exactly 92.00.

| Amount | |
|---|---|
| Subtotal | 84.60 |
| Tax 8.75% | 7.40 |
| 18% tip on subtotal | 15.23 |
| 18% tip on total with tax | 16.56 |
Customs vary a lot by country: 15–20% is usual in the US, rounding up or 5–10% is common in much of Europe, and tipping isn't practised in Japan. Check the bill for a service charge first. See How Much to Tip and How to Split a Bill Fairly.
